President Adama Barrow on Saturday 8 November 2025 inaugurated the much-anticipated Nuimi-Hakalang Road.
The 84.5 km stretch is being hailed as a vital link connecting farmlands and communities across the region.
President Barrow emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring that every community has access to basic amenities, including electricity and education. “Today, we are not just opening a road; we are opening doors to opportunities for our people,” he stated.
“This road will serve as an anchor, connecting our farmers to markets and our children to schools.”
The Nuimi-Hakalang Road , which had been under construction for several years, faced skepticism from various quarters. Critics claimed that the initiative was merely a political maneuver ahead of upcoming elections.
The President’s remarks during the inauguration aimed to quell such doubts. “When we laid the foundation stone at Buniadou, many doubted our commitment but today our work is visible to all. My government is dedicated to the development of all communities, regardless of their location,” Barrow added.
As the government continues to prioritize infrastructure development, the Nuimi-Hakalang Road stands as a testament to its commitment to fostering inclusive growth and improving the quality of life for all Gambians.
Acting Managing Director Mr. Sulayman Sumareh Janneh also spoke at the event, emphasising the broader implications of the Nuimi-Hakalang Road. “This project is not only a road but one chapter in a broader national agenda,” he stated.
“The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, together with the National Roads Authority, continues to envision a fully connected Gambia, one where every region is linked, every community empowered, and every citizen afforded the opportunity to thrive.”
Mr. Janneh further revealed that feasibility studies are already underway to expand similar infrastructure links across the North Bank Region and beyond. “We are committed to strengthening the arteries of trade, mobility, and regional integration,” he said, signaling a future of interconnected communities.
