The Gambia’s Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources, Rohey John Manjang, has been formally invited by Ambassador André Aranha Corrêa do Lago, President of COP30, to serve as Co-Facilitator for the Adaptation negotiations at the ongoing UN Climate Change Conference in Belém, Brazil.
In his official communication, the COP30 President underscored the crucial role of the Adaptation track in securing a meaningful and balanced overall outcome at this year’s Conference of the Parties. He highlighted that the phase of discussions to be co-led by the Honourable Minister will be central to advancing global efforts to support vulnerable nations facing the escalating impacts of climate change.
Ambassador Corrêa do Lago further expressed confidence in Minister John Manjang’s leadership, noting that her “valuable contribution will be instrumental in steering the negotiations toward a successful conclusion.”
This appointment marks a major milestone for The Gambia, strengthening the country’s standing in international climate diplomacy. It reflects not only the Hon. Minister’s commitment to advancing adaptation and resilience solutions, but also the country’s growing recognition as a constructive and influential voice in global climate negotiations.
The Ministry extends its appreciation to the COP30 Presidency for entrusting The Gambia with this important responsibility and reaffirms its commitment to working collaboratively with Parties and partners to drive the ambitious, equitable, and action-oriented adaptation outcomes.
