His Excellency President Adama Barrow on Monday, 24th November, inspected ongoing road construction projects in Gunjur, connecting the main road to the fishing landing spots. The project aims to facilitate smooth transportation of fish from the seaside to local markets.
The President also visited the Jambanjelly Mixed Farming Center, where a greenhouse constructed under the China-Gambia partnership is enhancing vegetable production.
Following the site visits, President Barrow and his entourage proceeded to a joint community meeting in Busumbala and Old Yundum. Addressing a large crowd in Busumbala, the President highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects across the country and shared future development plans for the Busumbala constituency and the entire West Coast Region.
He urged citizens to separate party politics from national development programs, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and peaceful coexistence in advancing the country’s development.
Honorable Ebrima Sillah, Minister of Works, Transport, and Infrastructure, reassured residents of the government’s commitment to robust infrastructure development nationwide. He noted plans to construct new roads in Kombo, including Busumbala, connecting Daru-Busumbala and Busumbala-Jambure to the Banjul-Kafuta Highway, with surveys scheduled to begin soon.
During the meeting, Bintou Manjang appealed to the President for the expansion of Busumbala, Banjulinding, and Yundum health centers, particularly their maternal wards, which lack essential equipment and furniture. She emphasized that the centers often accommodate many expectant mothers without sufficient chairs and tables.
Mr. Jatta Alkalo of Busumbala requested the construction of proper feeder roads in the area, especially those leading to the community garden, which become unusable during the rainy season, negatively affecting the market value of produce. He also appealed for the garden to be fenced, noting that over 500 households rely on it and that it currently lacks toilet facilities. Additionally, he requested the construction of a labor ward at the local hospital, noting that the community has already allocated land for this purpose.
